Mid Island Distance is a running club that is open to anyone Grade 8 and older who live on mid Vancouver Island and love to run cross-country, middle distance and distance. The goal is for athletes to improve their personal bests, feel successful about running and have fun. Three team members competed in the Youth National Championships in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, August 9-11 and other members were proud to achieve a personal best during the season. Every runner is supported and respected. Kim and Randy would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Team ORCA for their very generous and kind support of their club and youth in the community. The Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) was also the recipient of $500 from race proceeds.  PEO is an organisation with a local chapter in the Oceanside area that promotes the advancement of women’s education through scholarships, grants, awards and loans.  A great connection was made when we learnt that Sharon Welch, Executive Director for Forward House attained her position through the support received from PEO when she applied to take her Masters Degree.

We are thankful to everyone who helped make this event a success, especially to Pharmasave (Parksville), Mt Arrowsmith Brewing Company and Cascadia who so generously sponsored this event, and to RBC, Qualicum for their special contribution.
