Subscribed members will receive a weekly email from Heather Beatty about where to meet for the 8 a.m. start, options for distances and scheduled routes, and where to go afterwards to meet for coffee/breakfast. We’ll leave last week’s routes on this page FYI but the upcoming routes are listed first. You can also check out the route info on our ORCA FB page posted by Terry Riggins (if you are not a member, please join us!)

Saturday Sept 9th: Top Bridge 

We are looking at hot weather this week, 7:30 AM start.
Please look at the map for starting location off Chattle Rd Parksville.
Coffee to follow at Serious Coffee 

It looks like Marathon training is about 34km this week, yikes.
1/2 Marathoners should be running about 16km, and 8km racers are looking at 12km.
I have not set out a route for the full marathon training this week as I’m not sure that there are any of you coming out.
I have given the road runners a choice this week, you pick.
Trail runners there are lots of paths up along the river.
Walkers please join in as this is a great location; don’t miss out on this beautiful area.

Start at Top bridge, Englishman River, Serious Coffee side of the river, cross the suspension bridge, run up the hill to the gate, turn left follow the gravel Rd, at about 4.5 km you will come across a Rd, not sure if it will have a sign. This will be Middlegate, follow this, then turn left at Benzon Crescent, follow this back to Middlegate,you should be at about 6.3 km. Follow the logging road back the way you came. this should be 11.17km.
Alternately follow the path along the river.

Run over the Suspension bridge, continue up the hill to Allsbrook Rd, turn Right on Evergreen Way, turn left back onto Allsbrook Rd, turn Right at Allenby Rd, take the short path to the hwy on ramp cross carefully, continue down the Alberni Hwy to Despard, turn Right, follow Despard to Corfield St, run down Corfield to Stanford Ave, turn Right. Turn left on Shelly, take the next Right on the Island Hwy, cross over the Englishman River Bridge, continue on Hwy to Industrial Way follow Industrial Way, turn right on Herring Gull Way, right on Franklin Gull, right on Industrial Way to the very end, take a short path out to the Hwy, continue along to Kaye Rd, stay straight on Kaye. for 14.26km Turn right on Chattle Rd back to Top Bridge.

Note for 10km, turn around at Allenbey Rd head back down Allsbrook to the start.

Note For 22.55km continue on Kaye Rd, turn Left on Peterson Rd, turn left on Cinnamon Sedge, next Right on Matuka Dr, right on Peterson Rd right on Kaye Rd, Left on Chattle back to top Bridge.

Saturday, June 10th: Hit the Trails!

We have a great opportunity to run on the Light House community Trail System in Qualicum Bay. About 12KM but there will be options for shorter routes. Kris will bring a few map copies to share.

We’ll be leaving at 8 AM. Car Pooling from the Water tower at the old train station in Parksville just off the Alberni Hwy across from Buckerfields. Driving from Parksville to Qualicum Bay on the old highway, turn left on Lions Way in Qualicum Bay, turn right on Lioness Blvd. The trail head is at the end of the road. Lots of parking.

The run will be around 11-12 kms with options for shorter distances. Easy pace. Dogs and well behaved runners welcome.

Those that wish do not wish to participate, you can Start from Serious Coffee, following routes shown below.

8 A.M Start

It’s your choice of 9.46km or 12.59km or 15.08km routes or any variation you like. See Map links below.
Alternately you can run the Rail Trail out and back–this gets you off the road with a fairly smooth surface.
There are trails aplenty. For runners, your leaders will be sure to make it fun. Walkers please join in–our walkers are always looking for company.
Everyone is welcome to join the ORCA family for coffee at Save on Foods following the run…..in the Wembley Mall at 818 Island Hwy in Parksville.
8 a.m. start: Park at the Off leash dog park just up Despard Avenue from the Springwood School.

Cross the Orange Bridge, turn Right on Martindale Rd, follow around to Turner Rd, turn Left on Shelly Rd, left on Pioneer Cr, Left at Hwy, cross over the bridge back past the Log Cabin Store to Resort Dr, continue on Resort to Sunrise Ridge Resort take the trail on your right to Repo Depo, follow Hwy, cross Arbutus to the parking lot at Serious Coffee.

Continue on Crescent crossing Memorial to Arbutus St. Turn Lt on Arbutus. Run up to trail near Hoylake Rd. Retrace route on trail back to Laburnum. Finish at the School on Claymore.

Turn Right on Village Way, Right on Memorial, Left on Sunningdale, cross Beach Rd to get back onto the path, follow this back to Laburnum, turn left back to the School.

Note: For 6km route, turn right on Memorial, right on First Ave, stay on First back to Arbutus, right on Arbutus, left on the path back to the school.

LAST WEEK’s ROUTE: April 29th 2017

Location: Moorecroft Park, Nanoose Bay (Just off Stewart Rd). Parking Lot near caretakers cabin.

Coffee after at Perks beside QF at the Red Gap Collins Crescent.

Road runners: See 8/11/16.58kmroutes with optional 20-22 km distances.

Trail Runners: There is a great selection of trails on the other side of Stewart Rd, also great trails through Moorecroft Park; walkers could really enjoy these trails.

16.58 km Route:

Start at Moorecroft Park of Stewart Rd, follow trail through the park, stay left toward La Salva, run down LaSalva, turn left on Clayton Cres. Turn Right on Nuttal Dr. Right on Prawn. Cross Dorcas Point Rd to Path to beach, run to the water then turn left along the beach for a short distance, take path back up to Haidi Way, turn Right.

Run along Haida Way to Seacrest, turn left. Turn Right on Marina Way, follow Marina to Reef Rd, turn left onto Reef, this will turn back into Marina Way, stay on Marina to Claudet Rd, turn Right. Stay on Claudet out to NWB Rd, turn Right on NWB Rd.

Run to Saunders Rd. Stay Right on Saunders, this will turn into Saddle Dr.   Saddle will take you around back to Saunders, stay right. Turn Right on NWB Rd. Turn Left on Stewart Rd, at the bottom of the hill take the small Rd back into Moorecroft.

Note: to add distance to this route, add 2 more loops to the Saunders and Saddle section, or at the finish you could head back through the Park to run La Salva to Clayton, out to Claudet, turn around and go back (for 21-22km).

Start at Moorecroft Park of Stewart Rd, follow trail through the park, stay left toward La Salva, run down La Salva, turn left on Clayton Cres.
Turn Right on Nuttal Dr. Right on Prawn. Cross Dorcas Point Rd to Path to beach, run to the water then turn left along the beach for a short distance, take path back up to Haidi Way, turn Right. Run along Haida Way to Seacrest, turn left. Turn Right on Marina Way, follow Marina to Reef Rd, turn left onto Reef, this will turn into Marina Way, turn Left on Dorca Point Rd, Right on La Salva Pl, follow trail at the top of the hill back to Moorecroft.
